Jake passionately provides his clients the tools needed for incapacity, nursing home care, death, and taxes. Jake provides estate planning, elder law, and other transactional services. He approaches clients like neighbors: with kindness, patience, and the utmost care. He loves the puzzle of figuring out how to protect his clients’ assets. Jake is a native of Negaunee and lives in Republic with his wife Taylor, and their two sons. Heirloom allows Jake to spend more time doing what he loves most: farming, hockey with his sons, and playing music.

Susan is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in Elder Law & Estate Planning in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. 

She enjoys working with clients to create estate plans that safeguard their futures and reflect their unique choices for themselves and their loved ones. Her dedication to her clients and her knack for simplifying complex legal matters have established her as a trusted advisor in her field.  In addition to her law practice, Susan is certified to coach attorneys on burnout prevention and recovery.   

Originally from New Jersey and then Grand Rapids, MI, Susan and her family moved to Negaunee in 1998, after visiting the area on a fall vacation. She’s an avid cross-country skier, mountain biker, hiker, snowshoer, pickleball player, podcast fan, and lab lover.

In addition to her experience as an administrative professional in the medical field, Laura brings her sense of calmness and meticulous organization to our practice. After taking several years off to raise her children, Laura works with her neighbor, Jake Spear, to provide estate planning and elder law services across the UP and Northern Wisconsin. Laura enjoys playing outside: running, dirt-biking, fishing, and camping with her family are a few favorites!
